Common questions
What is the difference between adult day care and adult day health care?
Social adult day care offers supervision, activities, meals and personal care in a group setting. Adult day health care adds clinical services such as nursing, medication help and therapy. Texas licenses these as Day Activity and Health Services, overseen by a licensed nurse.
Does Medicare pay for adult day care?
Original Medicare does not; Medicare.gov lists adult day health care among long-term care services where you pay all costs. Medicaid programs in many states, the VA's Adult Day Health Care program and PACE may pay, depending on eligibility. Some Medicare Advantage plans offer extra benefits, so ask the plan.
Is a social adult day care in New York City licensed?
No. NYC requires social adult day care programs to register with NYC Aging and follow state and city standards, but NYC Aging says registration does not grant a certification or license. Complaints go to 311.
What does 'NPI registered' mean on a listing?
The organization has an active National Provider Identifier with adult day care as its self-reported specialty. An NPI is a federal billing number, not a state license. Ask the center which state license or certification it holds and check it with the state.
Why is a center I know missing?
We list only centers on the Texas or Missouri licensing directories, NYC Aging's SADC list, or with an active adult day care NPI elsewhere. Many centers use a different NPI specialty or none. Centers can claim or request a listing from the For businesses page.
Does this site recommend centers?
No. We publish what official sources say and never rank by payment. Featured listings are paid, labelled and flat-fee, and never change the order of the directory.
